AWAC 2008: Aug 1 to 10 at KPDT

Countdown to AWAC, Final Weeks:

We are in the final weeks of preparation for AWAC 2008. Registration is closed for competitors but we still have visitors and team supporters making arrangements to attend.

Pre-champsionship flights will happen in the Pendleton aerobatic box on July 31st and August 1st, in parallel with registration on August 1st. The actual championship will run from August 2nd through 9th with the award banquet the evening of August 9th. All registered attendees automatically have tickets to the banquest. We will shortly put up a reservation process/form should others be interested in buying tickets to the banquet.

AWAC 2008 Inc. has worked collaboratively with the Pendelton Air Museum to host an airshow are Pendleton Airport. This airshow will be open to the public and will feature performers from the championship in addition to regional/national US airshor performers. Spectators will have access to a fenced in ramp area with an excellent view of the airshow in addition to food concessions.

For information on the Pendleton Air Museum, please click here, where you can see up to date information on the air show.

Hertz Offer for AWAC Attendees:

Registration fees include bus transportation between the hotels and airport. People wishing their own rental cars must make their own arrangements. Hertz (located at Pendleton airport) has established a special rate available to people attending either the Beaver State Regional Competition in June or in the area for AWAC 2008 during the months of July and August. The AWAC 2008 daily rates are substantially lower than the standard daily rates when making weekly reservations:

Vehicle Class Regular Rate AWAC 2008 Rate
Economy $43.95 $24.95
Mid size $45.95 $29.95
Full size $54.95 $34.95

These rates are ONLY available when booking directly with the Hertz office at Pendleton airport. To make a reservation, please call the office at +1 541 276 3183 and mention you are looking for the AWAC 2008 rate. Please make reservations as early as possible as Hertz needs to estimate how many cars to have on hand during the summer. Also note that minivans are in short supply at that time of year. However, the AWAC 2008 Hertz rates make it possible to reserve to full size American cars for less than the price of one minivan.

Sponsorship Update:

Over the past months, AWAC 2008 Inc. has been talking to potential sponsors for the 8th Advanced World Aerobatics Championship. The good news is that some have already committed to the event, and we thank them all for that. However, there are still plenty of sponsorship opportunities available.

We ask that any individual or organization interested in sponsoring AWAC 2008 contact us via the Email Us link above as soon as possible to discuss our potential sponsorship opportunities and associated media benefits.

Dates & Logistics:

AWAC 2008 is now set for August 1st through the 10th at Pendleton Airport in Pendleton Oregon. Click here for information on the airport. This places the event in the middle of what is generally months of the dry, warm weather that is normal for the high desert of Eastern Oregon. Expect warm sunny days with some degree of wind - bring sunscreen, a hat and be ready to drink a lot of water while at AWAC!

Currently all participants, officials and volunteers are being housed in the Red Lion Hotel. If we run out of hotel space at the Red Lion, we have made arrangements through the Red Lion to use space at the Best Western, which is located next doo to the Best Western.

There are other hotels available within the Pendleton area for non-participant visitors and spectators. For more visitor/tourist information, including accomodation, concerning Pendleton please click here for the visitor's director of the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce.

Volunteers Needed:

Naturally, an event like this owes its success to volunteers. We'd like to encourage people to volunteer as we'll need help for a variety of tasks at the event. Please use the Email US button above to let us know if you are interested. Given sufficient sponsorship, we intend to cover some of the expenses for volunteers.

Pre-AWAC Practice Areas:

KPDT Pendleton Oregon AirportWe now have multiple practice boxes approved and ready for use. The box at Pendleton will not be available until a few days before the AWAC event itself. All practice boxes will have a process for booking time. The same will be true for the few days that the Pendleton box is available.

Please contact   John  Pierson  (click on his name to email him) to coordinate practice areas.

Slots will be available in the Pendleton box on July 31st and August 1st. There will shortly be a form available on this website to apply for a slot. We will attempt to group teams together in the schedule and will make sure that each competitor gets at least 1 slot during those days. Given the number of competitors and number of slots we should have available, we are also expecting that each competitor will have access to a second slot, if desired.

Donations:

We have had some people ask if they could make a contribution towards the cost of AWAC 2008. In response, we have put in place a PayPal account to allow people to easily make a tax deductible (in the US!) donation to us. You can either click on the Donations button in the menu bar above for more details, or just click the Donate button below to make a donation now. We are thankful to everyone who has donated to date - and will be just as thankful to those who donate in the future!

Please note that if you use a major credit card, PayPal will email you a receipt that can be used with a US tax return. If you pay through a PayPal account, please don't forget to print your receipt as, in that case, PayPal will not send you an email receipt.
